Product Description

"The hottest instructor in golf"(Sports Illustrated) presents a revolutionary guide for lowering your score with a powerful new approach to strategizing, decision-making, and management for every part of your short game.

Stan Utley's breakthrough short game and putting techniques have made him one of the most sought-after golf instructors in America. Now he offers a breakthrough approach for golfers of all skill levels, with a course- management approach designed to help golfers at the crucial stages of a round of golf.

The Art of Scoring shows readers how to understand the way their short game handicap and overall skill level should dictate strategy. Breaking down pitching, chipping, bunker play, and putting into three proficiency categories, Utley presents customized techniques for saving shots simply by making better decisions. He leads us through a round with three amateurs-two 10-handicappers and a 20-handicapper-to show how improved strategy and execution can transform a player's game. With behind- thescenes pro teaching sessions, crash courses on the three hardest greenside shots, and one hundred black-and-white and color photographs, The Art of Scoring is like getting a brand-new set of state-of-the-art clubs, customized by one of the game's premier teachers.

Nice introduction to Stan Utley's concepts

I've read both of Stan Utley's other books, "The Art of the Short Game" and "The Art of Putting". This book covers, in less detail, many of the concepts he discusses in those books. If you were to buy only one of the 3, this would be the one. As I mentioned, though, I have all three, and find each beneficial.
I like utley's work BUT

big fan of stan's instruction and i like this book and art of the short game. the putting book doesn't seem that unique or helpful. i did get one good tip out of it.

anyway, i think stan should consolidate his books into one version like the new phil mickelson short game book. large glossy color pages would be so much better.
Very good read.

Golf on instinct

Review Date: October 6, 2009
Reviewer: Charles Fairbairn,
I own Stan Utley's first two books, on Putting and the Short-Game. When I saw he had a new book coming out I knew I needed to get it. Why? Utley wants us to play golf instinctively and spontaneously. He constantly talks about accessing natural talent. There's nothing mechanical or rigid about his style.

I read the Art of Scoring quickly and like what I see. Sure there is some repetition here but I've found it helpful. The sand-shot technique he endorses is particularly worthwile.
Short Game

When I asked a teaching pro friend about help with my short game he said, "Go get Stan Utley's books on putting and the short game. You will always refer to them." I did and have been going to them for 3 years. I believe they are the best references available on 100 yards and in.
I saw this book was available, bought it and read it. If you want help with your short game, run and get both The Art of Putting and The Art of the Short Game. Absorb them. Then get this book. The other two books are absolute musts. This one is helpful after you have read the other two books.
